Fire ban still in effect

City to resume rough-cut mowing

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat will resume rough-cut mowing operations after recent rainfall has put a little moisture on the previously tinder-dry ground.

“With the rain we’ve seen, and cooler temperatures in the forecast, we’re confident crews can take care of the taller grasses and weeds along our roadways and open spaces,” said fire chief Brian Stauth in a release.

Rough-cut mowing occurs on non-manicured grassed areas like road right of ways or dryland areas

Fire and emergency services, together with parks and recreation announced on July 14 the operation would be suspended due to the hot and dry weather conditions.

Even though weather conditions have improved somewhat the city’s fire ban from June 28 remains in effect.

No open burning is permitted.

“This means wood burning fire pits and charcoal BBQs are not allowed until further notice,” says Stauth.
