43 new cases in city, 397 in province

Medicine Hat at highest number of active COVID-19 cases since May

The number of COVID-19 cases in Medicine Hat has jumped by nearly 100 in the past week, almost half of those in today’s update.

There are 142 active cases of COVID-19 in the city on Thursday.

Medicine Hat has had 1,426 total cases – the 142 active, 1,262 recovered and there have been 22 deaths.

There are 43 new cases in the city since Wednesday and four new recoveries.

61.1 per cent of Hatters have received at least one dose of vaccine at the latest update. 54.4 per cent of Hatters are fully vaccinated.

There are 2,526 active cases in the province, up 244 from Wednesday, and 230,786 recovered cases in the province, up 152.

Alberta’s total cases from the start of the pandemic is 235,641.

There are 397 new cases in the province today, and 353 more variant of concern cases have been identified. The number of new cases is the highest daily total since June 1.

There are now 102 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 24 of which are in ICU, and 2,329 deaths.

The province completed 7,460 tests in the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate is about 5.3 per cent.

Alberta has administered 5,355,254 doses of vaccine at the latest update.

Province-wide, 76.2 per cent of Albertans 12 years old and up have received at least one dose of vaccine and 66.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Among Albertans of all ages, 64.8 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine and 56.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

There are 282 active cases and 12,428 recovered in the South Zone. The death total in the zone is at 138. There are 11 people in hospital in the zone, none in ICU.

The province-wide reproductive value for the week of July 19-25 is 1.48. It is 1.50 in Calgary Zone, 1.37 in Edmonton Zone and 1.48 in the rest of Alberta.

It’s updated every two weeks. At the last update from July 5-11 the numbers were 0.84, province-wide, 0.88 in Calgary Zone, 0.97 in Edmonton Zone and 0.69 in the rest of Alberta.

Cypress County has totaled 333 cases. There are 29 active cases, 303 recovered and one death. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.9 per cent, the two-dose rate is 44.8.

The County of Forty Mile has 158 total cases. There is one active case, 154 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 30.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 26.6.

The MD of Taber has 575 total cases — three active cases, 566 recovered and there have been six deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 37.6 per cent, the two-dose rate is 32.9.

Special Areas No. 2 has 106 total cases – two active cases, 103 recovered and there has been one death.

Brooks has 1,540 total cases — 33 active cases and 1,492 are recovered. Brooks has recorded 15 deaths.

The County of Newell has a total of 254 cases — six active cases, 245 recovered and there have been three deaths. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 51.1 per cent, the two-dose rate is 43.4. The Newell numbers include the city of Brooks.

The County of Warner has 470 total cases. There are two active cases, 465 are recovered cases and there have been three deaths in the county. The latest one-dose vaccination rate for all ages is 46.8 per cent, the two-dose rate is 40.5.

The City of Lethbridge has a total of 4,891 cases. There are 41 active cases, 4,810 recovered and there have been 40 deaths. Lethbridge County has 1,275 cases, 11 active cases, 1,250 recovered and there have been 14 deaths.

Not all the areas on the vaccination data map match the case count map.

The figures on alberta.ca are “up-to-date as of end of day Aug. 4, 2021.”

Saskatchewan has a total of 50,251 cases, 503 considered active. There are 49,167 recovered cases and there have been 581 COVID-19 deaths in the province.
