MEDICINE HAT, AB – A 33-year-old man has been charged with assault and unlawful confinement following an incident in the Crestwood neighbourhood earlier this week.

Medicine Hat police received a call Tuesday morning from a man claiming he had been held in a residence and assaulted.

Police investigated and determined the man had been confined for an extended period of time before being struck with a baseball bat, punched, and choked.

Staff Sgt. Rod Thompson says the victim was eventually able to flee the residence before contacting police.

“We have arrested the subject. He did have his bail hearing and has been formally charged,” Thompson said. “He’s a 33-year-old Medicine Hat man, there’s no risk to the public and the victim and the accused in this matter are known to each other.”

Zechariah Jordan has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, assault choking, unlawful confinement and breach of release order.
