MEDICINE HAT, AB – There are 10,000 new reasons for Medicine Hat athletes to get involved in track and field.

The Medicine Hat Panthers Track Club received a $10,000 donation from the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program.

The club bought new gear and equipment including throwing implements, hurdles, starting blocks and training gear.

Local athletes will now have the chance to practice and compete with higher-quality equipment.

It also allows younger kids to try throwing events, with weight appropriate implements.

Coach Darren Klein says this will make a big difference.

“When we have 100 kids come out for a track and field practice, this is one way we can affect numerous different people in our community, for kids of all ages,” Klein says.

Klein hopes this will get more athletes involved in events they might not otherwise have tried.
