Sentencing expected today for Anwar Kamaran in gas war assaults
MEDICINE HAT, AB – A southern Alberta man at the centre of a 2020 gas war in Walsh is set to appear in court today for sentencing on charges of assault, uttering threats and breach of conditions.
Anwar Kamaran last appeared in court on June 22. On that date, agreed statements of fact were read into court, one regarding a pair of assaults on Aug. 9, 2020, the other threats made online this past January.
In those statements, Kamaran admitted that hours after being released from custody for a previous incident he attended the gas station owned by Geoff and Carol Shoesmith and assaulted Geoff, leaving him unconscious.
The same day he went to the family’s home and assaulted the couple’s son David.
