City asks residents to write themselves a love letter as part of initiative to promote self-worth
An initiative with the City of Medicine Hat this week saw residents writing love letters at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage centre. But contrary to what you may think, the letters weren’t for a special someone. Instead they were for themselves.
Write Yourself a Love Letter, aims to get people thinking about their positive qualities in a bid to promote self-love and greater positivity and it is something Ashley Howse with the City of Medicine Hat says has been missing due to the daily stressors and the pandemic. She said putting those positive words on paper can be an empowering experience for those who often don’t think about the positive qualities they bring to the world. Howse said thinking positively can have far-reaching effects.
“ The idea that you put some nice positive affirmations on paper, and you say them about your self and it is just a huge thing for us. So we really believe that the more we tell each other positive things, the more we talk positively about ourselves we create a much more positive world,” stated Ashley Howse community resource worker with the City of Medicine Hat.
Once the letters are written, the letters are then placed in a mailbox. The city said the letters will be distributed later this year.
