MEDICINE HAT, AB- After a one-year delay due to COVID-19, The Post Thrift store finally held its grand opening, to welcome residents to its new location.

The thrift store is operated in conjunction with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Southeast division. Last year the store moved from South Railway to 3rd street downtown.

A BBQ, karaoke, and sidewalk sale took place outside. Shoppers also got a special discount.

Members of the Medicine Hat Police were also on hand to raise some money, by volunteering to get wet, by being the target of the pitch and burst, which saw participants throwing balls at water balloons placed above their heads.

Trish Richard is the new store manager. She said in the month that she has been with the store it has been bustling with thrifters and those looking to make donations.

” Reduce, reuse, recycle. I think that was on everyone’s brain and COVID-19 was tough on people, so that idea of being thrifty I think is really important,” she said.

The influx of shoppers is much appreciated, according to Richard who noted all of the proceeds from the thrift store stays local in order to support CMHA programming in the region.
