Arrests made in Taber drug trafficking bust

TABER, AB – After first receiving word about a drug trafficking group in Taber, arrests have been made.

With the assistance of ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team), Taber Police began a joint investigation that included various investigative techniques.

β€œOn July 14, 2021, at approximately 8:40 pm, the Taber Police Service, with assistance from ALERT surveillance team members, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle between Taber and Barnwell,” a news release reads.

The occupants were then arrested and cash, over 15 grams of crack cocaine, 2 grams of cocaine, and numerous pills controlled under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were seized.

Arthur Doyle Cranston, 61, of Taber, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and operating a conveyance while prohibited.

Cranston was also issued an Immediate Roadside Sanction which carries a 90-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle seizure, and a $1,000 sanction.

He was remanded into custody and will appear in Taber court on July 20,.

Tyler Tysen Mercer, 50, of Taber, is charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Mercer was released on conditions by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Taber court on July 27.

Esther Schmitt Fehr, 26, of Taber, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Fehr was released on conditions by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Taber court on July 27.
