City crews find wedding ring in the sewer after a Ross Glen woman accidentally flushed it

MEDICINE HAT, AB – It was a one-in-a-million shot, a wedding ring lost in the most unfortunate of places.

On July 4, the City of Medicine Hat received an unusual call for help.

A woman in Ross Glen accidentally flushed her husband’s wedding ring down the toilet. With more than 400 kilometres of sewer lines underneath the city, finding the sentimental piece of jewelry was very unlikely.

Patrick Bohan, director of city assets, says this near-impossible task was not a job for the faint of heart.

“We happened to have crews in the area and we used one of our little crawling tractors we use for inspecting sewer lines and after about an hour of flushing and catching, they caught this ring,” Bohan said. “It was really unusual but a very, very exciting day for our crews on the field.”

Bohan says when the ring was returned, the resident was overjoyed. CHAT News reached out to her, but she was not comfortable being interviewed.
