RALSTON, AB – CFB Suffield officially marked a change of command during a ceremony at the base today.

The 23rd base commander, Lt.-Col. Stephen Burke officially replaced Lt.-Col. Troy Leifso, who’s been in command since 2019.

Because of the pandemic, the usual military parade was replaced with a small indoor ceremony.

Families of both the outgoing and incoming commanders were there. Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes, Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz, Medicine Hat Mayor Ted Clugston and Redcliff Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick were also in attendance.

Burke will be in command until 2023 as the role is a two-year contract.
