Tigers pick two defensemen in CHL Import Draft

Jun 30, 2021 | 11:15 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers used both of their picks in today’s CHL Import Draft on the blueline.

With their first pick, the Tigers chose Gleb Ivanov at 55th overall. Ivanov played last season for MHK Dynamo Moskav in Russia, where he put up two goals and six assists in 50 games.

The six-foot, 178-pounder has a lengthy resume in international hockey, including the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge held in Medicine Hat and Swift Current in 2019. He scored two assists in six games to help Russia to the championship.

Tigers director of player personnel Bobby Fox says Ivanov is an “elite skating, puck-moving guy. He loves to jump in the play, he’s always involved in the attack.”

With their second pick at 71 the Tigers went for a bigger blueline presence, selecting Bogdans Hodass from Latvia.

Hodass stands six-foot-three and weight 194 pounds.

Hodass scored seven goals and added nine assists playing for Sport U20 in Finland.

“With Bogdans, he plays a Western Hockey League style. He’s a big rig, he loves to tee it up from the point and loves to shoot, he’s got a heavy shot,” Fox says.

Both Ivanov and Hodass were born in 2003.
