REDCLIFF, AB – Redcliff youth will be able to enjoy a brand new skatepark this summer and Wednesday was the official soft opening.

The town’s director of operations Derrin Thibault says kids have been taking advantage of the park after school and in the evenings.

The blue fence was slated to come down this afternoon.

Thibault says the wooden bollards are being installed as a temporary measure to separate vehicle traffic and pedestrians.

He says the skatepark is another great amenity for the town.

“It kind of adds to our recreation hub in the middle of Redcliff and it’s nice to have kids out doing something as opposed to stuck behind a computer or inside so it’s nice.”

A grand opening is planned a month from now around July 15.

No plans are finalized yet, but Thibault says the construction company ‘New Line Skateparks’ is expected to host an event with professional skaters and food trucks on site.

The park’s naming rights are still available.

Thibault adds landscaping wasn’t in the original budget for the project and they are still accepting donations.
