MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Nature Centre in Police Point Park is officially reopened to the public seven days a week.

With public health restrictions relaxing the centre can now open seven days a week from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

“We are really excited to be open. We’ve been closed since November off and on with everything that’s been going on so super stoked to have everyone come back down and talk to us, ask us questions,” says park interpreter Justine Bolen.

She adds staff, new summer students and Canadian Conservation Corps volunteers will be around the park to give out information and answer questions you may have about anything you see in the park.

Bolen calls Police Point Park a natural gem in the city and says there’s plenty to check out in all corners of the park.

“Because of spring and summer we have a lot of migratory birds that have come back and they hang out in the park,” she says. “We have lots of wildflowers blooming, it’s so green right now, the river is high and moving, everything is active the rabbits and deer and fawns that kind of stuff. So lots of different little wildlife and birds.”

She says the weekend was busy and it was reassuring during the closure that they saw lots of people walking in the park and utilizing the trails.

Inside the Nature Centre, an exhibition called “Creatures” will soon be on display and staff are working on more programming.

Bolen adds the goats that were a popular sight last year will be back at Police Point Park later this month and to follow the park’s social media accounts for updates.
