MEDICINE HAT, AB – Co-op is committing $125,000 for the Co-op Community Cafe in Medicine Hat.

The money is part of an investment being made by Co-op Community Spaces to fund projects that help bring communities back together.

“We are so excited to partner with Medicine Hat and District Food Bank through the Co-op Community Spaces program. The last 15 months have been very challenging, and it’s such an honor for our Co-op to contribute to creating a space for residents to safely come back together” explained Paul Haynes, CEO South Country Co-op Limited.

Programs that promote wellness and contribute to food security will be offered. This includes an emergency food pantry, a garden, a children’s play space and outdoor seating where community members can come together.

The community cafe section will be part of the food bank’s new location at the former Maple Avenue fire station.

“We are very grateful for the partnership with Co-op Community Spaces. Our organization and the folks we serve will benefit extensively from the kindness and generosity shown by Co-op. Creating community is what we do best and we feel that the partnership with Co-op furthers that goal for community to come together around food” says Celina Symmonds, Medicine Hat Co-op Café.

The giving program is administered by Federated Co-operatives Limited on behalf of more than 160 independent retail co-operatives across Western Canada that form the Co-operative Retailing System.
