Kollektiv Cycle is still closed even as other fitness studios open during Phase 2
Space limitations

Unable to reopen, local spin studio frustrated

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Fitness enthusiasts rushed back to gyms this week as Alberta entered Stage 2 of it’s reopening plan.

But one local spin studio is still closed.

Space limitations prevent Kollektiv Cycle from welcoming riders back.

On a Facebook post, Owner Sabrina Moore expressed her frustrations.

Kollektiv Cycle has only been open for two weeks in the last 15 months and under current public health guidelines, people have to be three meters apart during indoor fitness classes.

Under those restrictions, Moore’s boutique studio can only fit in two riders.

Before the pandemic, her classes could have 22 riders.

Moore has been renting the bikes out and teaching online classes, but it’s not the same as being in person.

“We know the demand is there, we know our riders are with us, we miss them dearly,” Moore said. “We’re really in a rock in a hard place right now. We’ve maintained our integrity throughout the whole thing and I’m not going to risk that now. We’re no strangers to adversity and we’re just going to keep pushing.”

Moore said local businesses have offered up their space for her to use, but she says it’s hard to recreate the atmosphere in the Kollektiv studio.

She is hopeful she can open during Stage 3 in just a couple weeks.
