Recycling ‘Street Team’ doing cart audits to educate residents

Jun 4, 2021 | 1:46 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The city’s recycling provider will conduct cart audits this month, aiming to educate Hatters on proper recycling habits and help them avoid contamination.

The GFL “Street Team” will canvass neighbourhoods at random and inspect the contents of exposed recycling carts, says the city in a release.

“If we find an item that can’t be recycled, or one that hasn’t been properly prepared for recycling, we’ll leave a note to let you know,” says Randy Wong, operations manager for GFL Environmental Inc. “And if all looks good, we’ll say a big thank you for helping us to protect the environment!”

Workers will wear logoed reflective vests and will provide business cards upon request. Residents may call the City Assets department at 403-529-8176 to verify.
