No midway or night shows for Stampede this year; working on rodeo

Jun 3, 2021 | 11:57 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The midway and night shows will not be part of the scaled-back Stampede week planned this year in Medicine Hat

The Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is working with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association to host a summer rodeo.

Other regular Stampede activities will go ahead.

Kara Brake, General Manager of the stampede says they initially thought they might have to cancel the whole event.

But she’s excited the stampede will still have a lot of activities.

“We’re still planning on doing a rodeo, our fireworks, our Better Living and Visual Arts events, our Horse Show, our Queen and Princess Competitions,” Brake said. “There still will be a lot of aspects of the stampede, just not a typical stampede week.”

Brake says they are working with Alberta Health Services to be able to safely welcome residents back to the grounds.

Board of directors president Dave Ziegenhagel adds they are hopeful that restrictions will allow for the summer rodeo to take place, even at a reduced capacity

Stampede continues to look at other summer events, such as hosting of a Canada Day celebration and potentially other events held on the grounds.

Refunds will be given to those individuals with tickets to the night shows starting on June 7, by contacting the MHES Office at 403-527-1234 or emailing mhstampede@mhstampede.com.
