Natural gas up slightly, electricity down the same

MEDICINE HAT, AB – For the second month in a row, City of Medicine Hat customers will pay more for natural gas and less for electricity compared to the previous month, though there’s not much change in either rate.

The June rates were posted by the city on Tuesday.

The natural gas rate has been set at $3.2915 per gigajoule, up from $3.2405 in May.

The fixed rate for 2021 is $3.50 per GJ.

Electricity customers will pay 6.989 cents per kilowatt-hour this month, down from 7.522 per kilowatt-hour in May.

The fixed rate offered by the city is 6.800 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The monthly rates are determined based on the average set by other providers in the province.

The natural gas price is in the middle of the $3.3520 set by Direct Energy and the $3.2310 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas).

The electricity price falls between the high of 7.238 cents set by Direct Energy and the 6.782 cents set by Enmax.
