City closing two downtown parking lots

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two parking lots downtown are being closed this summer.

The City of Medicine Hat says parking permits are no longer available for the Cottonwood lot at 603 First St. SE and the Linden lot at 533 First St. SE.

According to the city, the Cottonwood lot will be the gateway to Medicine Hat’s proposed Waterfront District. The lot will be redeveloped into a community flex space to be known as Town Square.

Following construction, to begin in early July and last until late fall, the space will continue to accommodate parking, along with multiple other community uses such as festivals, concerts, sporting events and more.

Construction at 533 First Street SE will require the Linden lot to close permanently.

Two-hour on-street parking in the downtown core is free and permit parking is available at the Transit Terminal and Esplanade. Find more information and fees at medicinehat.ca/parking.
