Park After Dark Cinemas planning for drive-ins this summer

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The province’s Open for Summer plan and easing of restrictions has created some optimism regarding summer activities.

Here in Medicine Hat, The Park After Dark Cinemas is once again planning to host drive-ins.

Owner and operator Megan Nunweiler has been showing outdoor movies in Medicine Hat since 2014.

Films are viewed on a 50-foot screen in the comfort of your car. The Park After Dark Cinemas hosted movies last year at the Exhibition and Stampede Grounds, in compliance with COVID-19 restrictions.

For this summer, Nunweiler says a similar plan in the works.

“Hoping to have drive-in style movie nights, one in July, one in August and a few more localized neighborhood movie nights,” Nunweiler said. “Just to kinda keep crowds smaller and bring them to little local parks around the city so that people can sit outside and do more of our traditional ones with the smaller screen.”

The event is free to the public and Nunweiler says she’ll have more details in the next few weeks.
