Students and teachers return to the classroom

May 25, 2021 | 2:16 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Students and teachers are back in the classroom again today, after two weeks of online learning.

And one Medicine Hat teacher says being in school brings a sense of normalcy for kids.

“It feels amazing to be back with our students and with our whole school. As the kids were coming in today saying hi, giving hugs, and smiles, it truly warms your heart.”

Savannah Symmonds teaches grades two and three at St. Louis School.

She says her class did phenomenal with online learning and is very proud of them.

But with 24 school days left in the year, she and her 22 students are excited to make the most of it before the summer break.

On Tuesday, she hopped back into learning with her students in math and science.

When it comes to experiments, she says it’s fun to do it as a class in person.

“Right now we’re doing a unit in science called exploring liquids. So later this week on one of the nice days we’re taking out the syrup, honey, vinegar, and we’re going to use marbles and see how it is. It’s just nice to get outside and do that stuff and easier for the cleanup too,” Symmonds laughed.

The education minister expects students can finish this school year in the classroom.
