Medicine Hat Regional Hospital
'Our community shouldn’t feel scared'

Busy hospital still has space for sick patients

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Staff at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital have been on the frontlines for 15 months dealing with the pandemic each and every day.

Local registered nurse Megan Eggins describes the experience as exhausting and that hospital workers are tired and fatigued.

“Disheartening attitudes and that atmosphere of sometimes feeling defeated, sometimes not,” Eggins said. “Some inklings of hope here and there.”

While she is starting to be optimistic about the future, she is concerned for those who are currently sick.

Eggins believes people are avoiding going to the hospital, thinking it will be too busy, and patients are seeking help only when they are too sick.

“People aren’t going to be turned back from seeking health care,” Eggins said. “I think that’s a huge issue we need to address. Our community shouldn’t feel scared to seek medical help.”

Eggins says you should seek health care if you require it. The hospital has taken extra precautions and has adequate amounts of personal protective equipment.
