MEDICINE HAT-AB- This May long weekend, Rick Fall of Sault St Marie will be strapping on his running shoes and sprinting through Medicine Hat. He has been on the run since April 12, starting his journey in Victoria B.C. Since then he has persevered through hot dry weather one moment, to snow and heavy winds the next. But it’s all for a good cause. Fall is raising money for the Make a Wish Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada.

For six days a week, Fall runs with his wife Colette by his side in their motorhome. Through the ups and downs, of pounding the pavement, day after day he said it is the children in need that give him the strength every day to keep going.

“ Just knowing that they are in need, and I could do it and sure I get some aches and pains and blisters on my toes, but these kids that are in need, most of these kids don’t have a choice. They are not going to get any better, and this is why I am doing this, to make their lives the best that I can while they are still alive,” Fall said.

Fall’s own niece was granted a wish many years ago, and that was one of the reasons why he wanted to give back.

“Some of these children need encouragement to have a reason to live, and a lot of children that have a wish granted to them, they come around,” he said.

He initially got the idea five years ago, after being involved with the Terry Fox run in his hometown of Sault St Marie.

Fall hopes to finish the run in his hometown by August.

Over $41,000 has been raised so far for the Make A Wish Foundation and Childhood Cancer Canada. His goal is to eventually reach $300,000.
