Snowfall warnings across southern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB – From B.C. to Saskatchewan, southern Alberta is under a snowfall warning.

Environment Canada says that people should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions and watch for updated statements.

The snowfall warning was issued for the Medicine Hat area at about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Late in the morning, a special weather statement advised about active spring weather for southeastern Alberta.

Rain will begin this evening and will transition to wet snow before morning. Wet snowfall will continue much of the day Thursday before tapering off Friday morning, reads the statement.

It also forecasts five to 10 mm of rain near the American border before transitioning to wet snow overnight tonight.

Total snowfall of five to 10 cm with local amounts approaching 20 cm near the Cypress Hills. The heaviest snow will fall through the day Thursday where 5 to 10 cm is expected. This snow will be very heavy and may break tree branches if left to accumulate. Take care when shoveling heavy wet snow. Poor travel conditions are expected Thursday into Friday.
