Special Olympics 50/50 cash raffle underway

May 17, 2021 | 4:10 PM

MEDICNE HAT, AB – 246 Special Olympians in our region will benefit from a 50/50 fundraiser that’s underway this month.

Medicine Hat chair Jaelynn Funk says the funds will help cover program costs for Zone 1 affiliates in Brooks, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat.

Programs include 5-pin bowling, 10-pin bowling, basketball, bocce, curling, floor hockey, FUNdamentals, figure skating, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, softball, and swimming.

Right now, in-person programs are on hold due to COVID-19, but some virtual programs are taking place.

Funk says the minimum prize is $2,000 and the maximum is up to $5,000.

“Tickets go for one for $10, four for $20, twenty for $50, or the best deal 100 for $100. I know $100 is a lot to ask for people right now but since it is the best deal we recommend people maybe get together and buy those tickets together and get a higher shot,” she said.

The sale ends May 29 and the draw will be made on May 31 at 1 pm.

“Through Special Olympics, athletes develop sports skills, social skills, and self-esteem, which assist them in becoming actively involved in recreational, educational, and employment opportunities in their local affiliates across the province,” Funk added.
