Ontario keeps stay-at-home order; Quebec pauses Oxford-AstraZeneca shots

May 13, 2021 | 11:05 AM

Ontario says it’s keeping its stay-at-home order in place until at least June 2 and Quebec has become the latest province to stop giving Oxford-AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 shot as a first dose.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says public health measures are driving down cases, but restrictions need to continue a few weeks longer so that the province can return to some degree of normal this summer.

Ontario recorded more than 2,700 new cases today along with 31 deaths.

Meanwhile, Quebec cites concerns over a rare blood-clotting condition as its reason for pausing the AstraZeneca shot.

Health officials say people who have already received one shot of that vaccine will have the choice to get it as a second dose or to receive a different one.

Quebec is reporting 781 new COVID-19 infections and five more deaths.
