Locals honour those who have died on the job

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A small ceremony was held at the Medicine Hat Memorial Arboretum on Scholten Hill today.

Locals came to honour the National Day of Mourning. A yearly day dedicated to honouring and paying respects to those who have lost their lives, been injured, or became ill due to work-related incidents.

Members of the Regional Safety Committee gathered for a moment of silence.

John Digman from the Medicine Hat Construction Association says it is important to remember those we have lost.

“It’s easy, particular in these current times, to forget how many people do get injured at the workplace,” Digman said. “We all must work really hard to try and improve safety at the workplace. It’s got to improve year on year, and currently it isn’t improving year on year.”

Digman says there are improvements being made to prevent illnesses on the job, but it’s a team effort to try and get the accident figures down.
