First half of April offered little moisture

Moisture remains elusive in southeastern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB — April showers have been fleeting for this part of the province.

Alberta Agriculture’s moisture update to the middle of April shows most areas in the district received between 1 and 2 mm of precipitation in the first two weeks of this month.

There were pockets where the moisture was less than one millimetre.

The precipitation winners over the first half of the month were areas north of Medicine Hat, where 3 to 5 millimetres were received – and up to 10 mm in the Special Areas.

Alberta Agriculture says April is historically a relatively dry month.

Toward the latter half of May, as summer weather patterns begin to dominate, is when Alberta’s wet season traditionally begins.
