Earth Day garbage clean-up to beautify Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tomorrow is Earth Day and the City of Medicine Hat is encouraging residents to help clean up litter.

Most years the city hosts a litter blitz event where members of the community get together to clean up garbage and celebrate with a barbecue.

Although the event is cancelled this year, residents are still encouraged to help beautify Medicine Hat.

The Parks and Recreation department have made a list of higher visibility areas that could use more clean up.

Jeff Quinlan, a Parks and Recreation technician, says Earth Day is the marker of spring. It’s about people and the community and taking pride in your city.

“What we’re seeing is a lot of garbage collected over the winter, particularly in the coulee areas, along the river, our environmental reserve areas are sort of a catch-all for garbage,” Quinlan said.

If you find any heavy or large items during litter clean-up, call the Parks staff to have them removed.
