Apr 20, 2021 | 4:34 PM

REDCLIFF, AB – A member of the Redcliff RCMP detachment was the first to arrive on the scene of a house fire last Monday night (Apr.12).

Cst. Eric Lankin helped another man rescue his 75-year-old father from the burning home.

The home on the 900 block of 6th Street S.E in Redcliff was fully engulfed when police arrived just before firefighters.

Cst. Lankin describes the night and how he helped the man rescue his dad who was trapped inside.

Cst. Lankin thanks the first responders who arrived on the scene.

And thanks the bystanders, one of which was a nurse who volunteered and stayed with the fire victim until EMS showed up.

He also thanks and has a shout-out to the son who was there for the rescue.

CHAT News reached out to the family of the house fire, they say they are pretty private. But in a message the wife says her husband who rescued his dad, “Doesn’t feel like a hero, he just did what he felt had to be done.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
