Calling all high school students

First-ever Drone Games happening next month

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The first Drone Games is planned for next month at Eagle Butte High School.

The event is an opportunity for high school students to compete in seven different drone challenges.

Southern Alberta Flight Academy students are hosting the event that will take place on Saturday, May 15 at 10 a.m.

The games are open to all high school students, not just those in Prairie Rose Public Schools. Drones will be provided for those who don’t have their own.

Event organizers say this is a great opportunity for students to learn about aircrafts.

“I think it’s a chance for kids to come out and have some fun and decide that maybe long-term something in the aviation career, be it drones or certified aircraft or airlines,” said pilot and Drone Game administrator Doug Little.

Many industries are now incorporating drones into everyday work. Prairie Rose superintendent Reagan Weeks says this can be beneficial for students potential career

“It helps students integrate technology into their overall academic programming and we know that in the agriculture world, drones are becoming an important component to help improve crops for all different variety of reasons,” Week said.

It costs $20 to participate and registration is open until May 7.
