New details about a positive case of COVID-19 at Eagle Butte High School
Medicine Hat, AB — Prairie Rose Public Schools says it has received an update on a positive case of COVID-19 at Eagle Butte High School in Dunmore.
Additional testing has confirmed this individual has a variant strain of the virus. As a result, close contacts and their families have been notified by AHS about additional testing and isolation requirements.
Prairie Rose was informed on April 7 of a positive case connected to the school. Sixty-nine students and four staff members were identified as close contacts and were placed into quarantine. The positive case puts Eagle Butte High School on Alert status.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced last week that the variants of concern were now the dominant strain of COVID-19 in Alberta. Hinshaw stated that going forward health officials would assume anyone testing positive for COVID-19 has a variant strain. As of last week, the B-117 strain which originated in the United Kingdom made up 99 per cent of all variant cases in Alberta.
