Louie Tams announces resignation from Taber town council

Apr 13, 2021 | 3:26 PM

TABER, AB – A member of town council in Taber has officially handed in his resignation.

The town has accepted the resignation notice from Louie Tams, which is effective immediately.

A media release from the town states that his resignation was due to a “personal and private matter.” Officials with the town were unable to elaborate any further to LNN.

“Councillor Tams has been an invaluable member of our Town Council and it was always a pleasure to work with him,” says Mayor Andrew Prokop, “Myself and the rest of Council wish him all the best and thank him for his many years of service to the community. His contributions to our team will most certainly be missed.”

Despite Tams’ resignation, there will not be a by-election to fill his seat on council.

Section 162 of the Municipal Government Act states that, if the vacancy occurs within an 18-month window before a general election, a byelection is not required.

The 2021 municipal elections take place on Oct. 18.
