Apr 10, 2021 | 10:47 AM

IRVINE, AB- A 100-year-old building that houses books to the small hamlet of Irvine, could be getting a major facelift in the future.

Cypress County is looking at possibly replacing the old library which used to be the hamlet’s office.

The current library provides books, computer access and programming for young families.

“Libraries are an integral part of a community, and we like to have libraries because that is an extension to all our people, and this is just to continue that,” said CAO of Cypress County,” Tarolyn Aaserud.

At the most recent council meeting, Cypress County council had a chance to look at concept designs as a first step to determine what kind of facility is needed.

CAO Aaserud said discussions surrounding the library are preliminary and no timeline has been set as of yet.

Preliminary outreach with the public has begun with the local librarian, but the County, according to Aaserud has not done any formal consultation as of yet.
