EDMONTON – Grant applications for Alberta Culture Days 2021 are now being accepted.

Community organizations can apply for three different categories of grants, based on the number of days of programming to be presented.

Feature sites could receive up to $10,000 for up to three days of programming. Host sites could receive up to $5,000 for presenting two days of programming. Pop-up sites could receive up to $1,000 for hosting one day of programming.

Culture Days events will take place during September. The events will showcase local talent and boost the impact and reach of existing cultural programs in their communities.

“I am delighted to announce that grant applications for 2021 Alberta Culture Days are now online,” says Leela Sharon Aheer, minister of culture, multiculturalism and status of women, in a release. “While COVID-19 made last year’s celebrations challenging, communities across the province rose to the challenge and delivered amazing events showcasing our homegrown talent. I am excited to see Alberta’s passion, creativity and talent on display during this year’s Alberta Culture Days.”

The deadline to apply for grants is May 7.

Those approved for grants by the province are designated as celebration sites. All communities are encouraged to host free public events celebrating culture.

In 2020, more than 241,000 people attended small in-person and online events. There were 943 events in 47 communities during Alberta Culture Days 2020.
