Positive case of COVID 19 connected to Irvine School; 644 new COVID cases in Alberta Sunday

EDMONTON, AB– Officials with the Prairie Rose School division were notified by Alberta Health Services on Saturday of a positive case of COVID-19 connected to Irvine School.

Close contacts were identified and a total of 64 students and (4) four staff have been placed into quarantine.

Irvine School will remain open to in-person learning following the Easter break and is working closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect students and staff.

644 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 146,340. Of those, 7,698 cases are active while 136,659.

In the South Zone, 66 people tested positive including 37 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, three Albertans died from COVID, to date, 1,983 Albertans have lost their lives as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 277 patients are currently hospitalized including 63 who have been admitted to intensive care.

594,723 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of March 27.

Appointments for COVID-19 vaccines can be booked using the online tool or by phoning Health Link at 811.

With another 11,953 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,676,148 tests conducted on 1,896,884 different people.

235 new variant cases were detected over the past 24 hours bringing the total to date up to 3,068.

Below is a breakdown of cases per regional health zone:

  • Edmonton Zone – 56,633 cases, 1,734 active
    • 85 in hospital, 17 in ICU
    • 1,007 deaths (one new)
  • Calgary Zone – 56,514 cases, 3,565 active
    • 102 in hospital, 27 in ICU
    • 603 deaths (one new)
  • North Zone – 13,712 cases, 855 active
    • 26 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 146 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 11,396 cases, 700 active
    • 33 in hospital, five in ICU
    • 122 deaths
  • South Zone – 7,943 cases, 815 active
    • 31 in hospital, nine in ICU
    • 105 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Lethbridge – 3,081 cases (37 new), 507 active, 30 deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 1,095 cases (10 new), 205 active, six deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 1,007 cases (18 new), 177 active, three deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 979 cases (nine new), 125 active, 21 deaths
  • Brooks – 1,367 cases, three active, 14 deaths
  • Cardston County – 770 cases (10 new), 74 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 669 cases (seven new), 110 active, eight deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 576 cases (one new), 11 active, 17 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 387 cases (five new), 44 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 244 cases, 13 active, five deaths
  • County of Warner – 179 cases, five active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 162 cases, two active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 149 cases (two new), three active, zero deaths
