MEDICINE HAT, AB – Ross Beach knows the value of a good meal and he wants as many people as possible to have one for Easter.

Beach, the owner of Rossco’s Pub, has been partnering with the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank the past few years for certain holidays. He wanted to help get more food to the people who need it and had a conversation with Celina Symmonds, the executive director of the food bank.

“I came up with the idea: How about you give me some of the food and I’ll prepare it in our kitchen and then we can make individual meals and we can make this food go a lot further and everyone can have a home-cooked meal,” explains Beach.

Now the food bank gives him food and he prepares it in his kitchen to make individual meals.

Those meals are then placed in the hampers given out to food bank clients.

Beach is a big believer in hungry people getting a home-cooked meal.

“It’s one thing I’m very, very passionate about is making sure that hungry people get food, a home-cooked meal,” he says. “You could lose your job, you could lose a lot but when you can go somewhere and get a home-cooked meal and when you’re full you feel good, you feel better, you feel good about yourself and I’m very passionate about that.

Beach and his staff made 450 meals of roasted ham, roasted potatoes, homemade mac and cheese and vegetables.

Symmonds is grateful to Beach, his staff and everyone that makes it happen.

“Ross is just a really amazing community member who reaches out every single chance he has to help his community.”
