Street sweeping underway, trail lines coming soon

Mar 26, 2021 | 4:29 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The City of Medicine Hat’s annual street sweeping has started.

Work has begun in high traffic areas and night shift crews will be cleaning traffic islands, boulevards, and bridges starting on March 28. It will last for about four weeks.

Daytime crews will move into school zones during the upcoming Easter school breaks, March 29 to April 9.

After school zones and night cleaning, crews will begin daytime street sweeping in the 17 prescribed zones.

Residents should watch for No Parking signs, which will be placed at least 12 hours prior to sweeping. The parking ban allows city crews the ability to effectively clean the roads for all users. In addition, all curb ramps and other objects must be removed from city streets.

Check the street sweeping map for more information.

Trail line painting

City staff will paint bright yellow lines along the Police Point West River Trail.

Painting will begin in the next few weeks. The trail will remain open while crews are working, creating little to no public disruption.

Trail users are reminded to stay to the right unless passing others.

The Police Point West River Trail is a link between Riverside and Police Point Park and is one of the city’s busiest trails which sees cyclists, joggers, dog walkers and families throughout the year.

Cyclists are encouraged to slow down and use a bell to signal when passing on the trails. Dog owners are reminded that Police Point Park is an on-leash area and are asked to always pick-up after their pets.
