Tourism industry ‘cautiously optimistic’ about a busy summer

MEDICINE HAT, AB – With 330 days of sunshine and 115 kilometers of trails, Medicine Hat is a prime location for summer tourists.

However, the industry was hit hard by COVID-19.

Tourism Medicine Hat is preparing for a busier summer than last year.

Executive director Jace Anderson says there will still be no long-haul traffic or international tourists.

The city is relying on the “visiting friends and relatives market.”

Anderson says they are “cautiously optimistic” about a busy summer. He says thanks to good food, coffee, and darn good beer, Medicine Hat still has a lot to offer.

“We’re expecting that we will be fortunate because we have that outdoor brand and outdoor experience,” Anderson said. “With our trails and our commuter access to Cypress Hills, the River Valley and our downtown.”

Tourism Medicine Hat is patiently waiting for Phase 3 to be announced. That’s when the visitor centre and key attractions can reopen.
