LEDUC, AB – RCMP have laid a first-degree murder charge following the stabbing death of a 17-year-old girl at a Leduc high school on Monday.

Dylan Thomas Pountney, 19, was arrested about two hours after the stabbing. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Edmonton Tuesday.

The victim was taken from Christ the King School to hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Police say the two knew each other but did not provide further details.

RCMP add the charge is now before the courts and further information will not be provided.

Classes were cancelled Tuesday, but a makeshift memorial continued to grow as people left flowers for the student killed.
