Update: Fire crews battle house fire

Mar 14, 2021 | 5:34 PM

UPDATE– Strong winds posed a challenge for Medicine Hat fire crews, as they worked to extinguish a house fire in the 800 block of 11 St SE.

The blaze prompted a response from all three stations. Crews were called to the scene at around 3:48 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

“The rear of the structure was fully involved. Crews were able to get hose lines out and around to protect both exposures and get the back knocked down,” acting Platoon Chief Scott Nadeau said,

Windy conditions resulted in flames spreading from the back to the attic.

” The fire was in long enough that we couldn’t go on the roof, so we had to use our ladder truck, and just getting access and cutting holes in it was just a challenge,” Acting platoon chief Scott Nadeau said.

The wind also pushed flames onto a neighbors’ home. But crews were able to put it out quickly, according to acting Platoon Chief Nadeau.

No one was believed to be inside at the time of the blaze. The exact number of people displaced is unknown.

The fire is under investigation.
