Trees to come down to make way for new trail
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Work will begin next week to connect the downtown core to the existing sidewalk and trail system that leads to the more southern areas of the city.
Tree removal will begin the process of building a 550-metre long, three-metre wide multi-use trail from Kingsway Avenue SE to Fifth Street SE downtown.
The trail is one of the city’s Municipal Stimulus Program (MSP) projects
Silver Maple trees will be removed along South Railway Street between Fifth Street and Hill Road to make way for the new trail. After assessment by a city arborist it was determined some of the trees have deteriorated to the point removal is necessary. They will be replaced at a three-to-one ratio in the Saratoga Dog Park at a later date.
