COVID-19 update: Province confirms 54 new variant cases Sunday

EDMONTON – Alberta Health has confirmed an estimated 300 new cases of COVID-19 across the province.

A total of 54 new variant cases were also confirmed Sunday.

Taking to Twitter, the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said system upgrades have resulted in only the release of preliminary numbers. A regular update is scheduled for Monday,March 8.

Hinshaw said roughly 8100 tests were completed over 24 hours. The provincial positivity rate is approximately four per cent.

In Medicine Hat, as of the latest update, the city has 13 active cases, 529 recoveries and 17 deaths.

Newell County has one active case, 157 recoveries and two recorded deaths.

The city of Brooks has one active case, 1348 recoveries and 14 recorded deaths.
