Murder charge laid following suspicious death of Swift Current woman

SWIFT CURRENT, SK– A 34-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a suspicious death occurred Thursday, March 4 in Swift Current.

RCMP in Saskatchewan say Roxane Poundmaker has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Chasity Poundmaker. She is also charged with the attempted murder of Lucinda Poundmaker.

Police say on Thursday they were called to an apartment building in the 200 block of 7th avenue northwest for an injured female in need of help at around 11:30 p.m. Prior to being transported to hospital with serious injuries, the woman told police about another female who was injured.

Police found the second woman, Chasity Poundmaker, dead inside an apartment in the 600 block of Chaplin Street.

A third female was arrested without incident on March 5 at 1:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Colonel Otter Drive.

Police say all three women were known to each other.

According to a press release, an autopsy will take place Monday, March 8 through the Saskatchewan coroners service in Regina SK.

RCMP say the accused will remain in custody until the next court appearance scheduled for Monday, March 8.
