MEDICINE HAT, AB – Grit City Distillery is expanding to look over the city of Medicine Hat.

The husband and wife team announced on social media this week that their new location will be at Badlands View along the Trans Canada Highway.

Owner Andy Schmunk says the location will be called The Whiskey District on the top floor of the building with a restaurant.

The whiskey house theme will also have flight options and 20 taps featuring local beer.

Additionally, they will be re-branding their current Tasting Room and calling it The Gin District while further expanding the menu there.

Schmunk says the Tasting Room is a little small and they want to have a few more customers.

“We’re going to theme it so that our Whiskey District is themed towards our whiskey and it’s going to have a similar feel to our current Tasting Room. And what we’re going to do is we’re going to darken it up a little bit and we’re going to really drive home the whiskey and serve some really cool cocktails to do with whiskeys. We can’t wait to showcase what we’re going to bring out.”

There is no timeline on opening at Badlands View, but Schmunk says they could be ready by summer or mid-spring.

The couple thanks the community for the support during the pandemic and throughout their opening since 2018.

“Community support has been absolutely a 10 out of 10. We live in such a great community and we have a fan base that we could not be more proud of. Our clientele are people who truly appreciate craft and locally made products and we’re so lucky,” Schmunk added.
