Dec 18, 2020 | 2:35 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Employers in the region can begin applying for the Canada Summer Jobs program on Dec. 21.

The program that provides jobs to young Canadians is open to not-for-profit organizations, private and public-sector organizations with 50 or fewer full-time employees can start preparing their applications now to hire a young Canadian.

It will provide up to 120,000 job opportunities to young Canadians next year. That’s a 50 per cent increase over 2020.

CSJ will provide a wage subsidy of 100 per cent of minimum wage coverage for not-for-profit employers and up to 75 per cent coverage for private and public-sector employers hiring full-time or part-time employees.

“This year, more than ever, not-for-profit organizations, small businesses and municipalities need to apply for funding through Canada Summer Jobs,” says Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz in a release. “By hiring a young person, you will be helping young Canadians develop their skills and gain valuable workplace experience.”

Employers can visit the Government Grants and Contributions Online Services portal for help getting their applications ready before the application period opens.

The deadline to submit funding applications is Jan. 29, 2021.
