Canada Post revises parcel shipping deadlines

Dec 14, 2020 | 10:02 AM

OTTAWA – Time was already running short to get your parcels mailed and now the high demand has forced Canada Post to revise its shipping deadlines.

If you’re sending a parcel nationally by regular mail you only have until Dec. 15 to get it sent for it to get to its destination before Christmas. You have until Dec. 17 if you’re sending at Flat Rate Box or Xpress Post. You have one extra day if you’re sending it by Priority Mail.

Regionally, the deadline for Regular Parcel is Dec. 16, and Dec. 18 for all other levels.

If you’re just sending within your city or town, you have until Dec. 18 for all shipping methods.

In a release, Canada Post says this past weekend it delivered about 1.1 million parcels across the country and doesn’t expect it to slow down this week or next.

“Even with processing and delivery moving well with additional resources, there is a limit to what we can safely process and deliver. Customers should expect delays,” the release reads. “Please track your items to follow their progress as we work to deliver.”

In the fall, Canada Post added more than 4,000 seasonal employees, increased its fleet by more than 1,000 vehicles and worked with commercial customers to manage the flow of parcels.
