MEDICINE HAT, AB – Two visitors will be leaving Medicine Hat with a raft of charges after a police pursuit on Monday morning.

It all started at about 11 a.m. when members of the Medicine Hat Police Service attempted to stop a Dodge pickup for a red light violation. The driver of the vehicle fled and police opted not to pursue it for safety reasons.

Less than 10 minutes later the truck was seen by another officer, and fled into a field off of Highway 3.

Police say the truck became high centred, at which time the driver and passenger fled on foot. The driver was captured after short pursuit.

The passenger was caught a short time later after police used and with assistance from the MHPS K9 unit and Redcliff RCMP.

A 34-year-old male from Okotoks, AB is charged with dangerous driving, evading police and possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000. A 29-year-old male from Invermere, B.C. is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, outstanding warrants for arrest and possession of identity documents.

Police also determined the truck and its licence plate were both stolen.

Both remain in custody awaiting bail hearings.
