Province confirms 1590 new cases of COVID-19

EDMONTON, AB- There are 1590 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the province on Saturday bringing the total number of active cases to 20, 072 in Alberta.

There are 681 people in the hospital and 128 in ICU.

A total of 57, 613 people have recovered.

The province also confirmed 13 new deaths. In total 697 people have died province-wide due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The provincial positivity rate is 8.3 per cent.

Updated regional numbers were not made available. Since the last update on Friday, Medicine Hat had 95 active cases with 266 recoveries and five deaths. The city remains under enhanced status and under a watch list with a 139.6 active case rate per its 68,057 people.

Medicine Hat Regional Hospital’s acute care facility, South Country Village, Element Technical Services, and Moduline Industries are listed as having outbreaks.

In Cypress County, there are 14 active cases, and 117 recoveries.

The city of Brooks has 31 active cases 1268 recoveries and 14 deaths.

The Municipal District of Taber has 38 active cases 2245 recoveries and five deaths.

Lethbridge County has 61 active cases 324 recoveries and three deaths.

The City of Lethbridge has 223 active cases 1006 recoveries and seven deaths.

In a tweet, the province’s chief medical officer of health urged Albertans to follow public health guidance and encouraged them to consider ways to connect with friends and family virtually as the holidays near.
