MEDICINE HAT, AB- The Mustard Seed will be spreading some Christmas cheer to the city’s most vulnerable, and they are asking members of the community to help in order to help make this Christmas a memorable one.

The Mustard Seed’s 12 Days of Giving Campaign kicks off this weekend. Every day for the next 12 days leading up to Christmas, The Mustard Seed is asking the public to donate items to help someone in need.

Colette Eirch, managing director of The Mustard Seed said this Christmas the need has grown substantially.

“Pre-COVID we were feeding 35 to 40 in the morning, and now we have had as high as 137,” she said.

This weekend, the Mustard Seed is asking for unwrapped toys, which will be delivered to families come Christmas Eve through their frozen meal program which serves 35 families, with approximately 42 children across the city.

Following the weekend, The Mustard Seed is requesting items such as toothbrushes, gift cards, winter clothing and travel sized toiletries.

The items will go towards Christmas backpacks that will be delivered to people on Christmas day.

“Our backpacks that we are making are new backpacks with new items so that Christmas morning, when we serve our meals that we typically serve every day we want to give them a backpack gift and it will be all the items that we are receiving from that list and then some,” Eirch said.

The Mustard Seed hopes to receive enough donations to make 100 backpacks, enough to help approximately 60 men and 40 women.

The following items are needed.
